THURSDAY AUG. 6 (Just After Midnight) and EARLY AM AUG.7:
The wide Crescent Moon passes between Earth and the Pleiades Star Cluster, causing the individual stars of the “Seven Sisters” to wink out, just to reappear at the “dark edge” of the Moon later.
SUNDAY AM AUG. 9, 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM:
The Crescent Moon and Bright Red Mars are closer together than the Dipper’s Pointer Stars.
WEDNESDAY AUG 12, All Night, and Dark Early Morning Aug. 13:
Perseid Meteors Peak, with higher numbers as the night wears on and the Constellation of Perseus rises higher in the Sky. This is often the best celestial “fireworks” display of the year, and the Moon will not interfere.
SATURDAY AUGUST 15, 9:00 PM - 9:30 PM: Venus and the Crescent Moon are only 4 degrees apart in the western Sky.
THURSDAY AUGUST 20, Evening:
The Bright Gibbous Moon appears only 1 ½ degrees below the Red Giant Star Antares.
